Pawling, NY: I’ve been putting off making this post for the past couple of weeks, but when I returned to the trail after Halloween, the temperature was starting to drop down into the 20s and even the teens at night, so I made the tough decision to put my thru hike on hold until the spring. ATC guidelines state that a thru hike must be completed within 12 months, so I have until July 15th, 2020 to complete the trail, and plan to start back up in March heading northbound from Georgia. Although I’m disappointed that I had to get off trail so much sooner than I’d hoped, I’m excited about the idea of getting to experience the trail as a NOBO, with a larger bubble/community, more trail magic, and more hiker services in season. In the meantime, I plan to continue doing day hikes, and maybe take a trip to a long trail in a warmer climate to keep my trail legs in shape. Post some suggestions for winter hiking!
