As i travelled deeper into #northsikkim i realised how closer we're to our mother nature. That realisation when everything around you is just pure and the only blackspot is you. I felt like a kid, sleeping in his mother's lap. Wish i could hold you in my arms and never give it away. . . #sikkimtravel #sikkimtourism #sikkimdiaries #sikkim #sikkimtravel #northsikkimdiaries #northeast #northeastindia #travelnortheast #earthporn #travelindiagram #indiatravel #india_ig #travelindia #serenity #mothernature #wanderlust #travel #visitindia #countryside #lovefortravel #indiagram #india_gram #nokia #nokia7plusphotography #nokia7plus #hdrscape #mytrystwithsikkim

Kupup is the Yak Golf Course which is considered to be the highest golf course in the world. The magnificent Tukla Valley opens up as one crosses Gnathang Valley and Old Baba Mandir which commemorates the valiant sacrifice of an Indian soldier Harbhanjan Singh who lost his life during the relief and rescue operation of people affected by terrible landslides and floods in this part of the region in the year 1968. A few houses dot the landscape on either side of this village as tyres wrapped in chains move in and out of this village with high degree of caution against possible slippage on the snow. There is another lake known as Menmecho lake, about 5 kms from Kupup and requires a possible diversion from the usual route that goes all the way to Nathula Pass. Ranka Monastery, Gangtok Ranka Monastery (also known as Lingdum Monastery) which is located about 20kms from Gangtok town is one of the most wonderful monasteries in east Sikkim. The monastery is spread out in a vast area with great scenic views. Since it's relatively a new monastery and does not have much historical or strategic significance like Rumtek Monastery, it is not much talked about. But I would personally give up several other attractions around Gangtok in order to make it to Ranka. No wonder several bollywood movies have this monastery featured. The monastery follows the Zurmang Kagyud lineage of Buddhism and under the direction of the 12th successor of the lineage Zurmang Gharwang Rinpoche. It's surrounded by forested mountains in all sides. This in my view has to be one of the most picture perfect monasteries in east Sikkim. But the road to Ranka has been lying in treacherous condition since quite some time and the journey would be backbreaking. You should ideally take a larger vehicle like a Scorpio or Innova. However the rewards are also awesome for this 8km journey from Gangtok. Unlike in Rumtek, there is no long uphill walk required in Ranka. Once you reach the car park, you will see series of prayer wheels fixed on a long wall. Enter through the main entrance into a large courtyard having a tall pillar like structure in the middle. During my ride in Sikkim, I planned to visit Zuluk, known for its 32 sharp hairpin bends, via Nathula pass which is also the international trading border with China. I had a childhood memory of my dad posted in this region. I along with my co-rider Abhimanyu were riding through this beautiful valley enjoying mesmerizing views at 4000m. In high-altitude region, weather is highly unpredictable. . We both planned to ride in Nathang valley and later look for a homestay to rest at night. Little did we know our destiny had plans for us. It was 4 pm and we were cruising at a slow pace negotiating between black ice and slippery roads. Riding a fully loaded bike with over 200 kgs weight is not easy in subzero temperatures at an altitude of about 13,000 ft. . Suddenly, we spotted an Army check post – guard on duty told us it was the shrine of Harbajan Baba. I vaguely remember childhood stories shared by my father about this holy shrine. It was nostalgic and exciting too. Upon brief introduction of ourselves and our riding plans, the army guys were happy to meet us and they offered us tea. Since we were left with little sunlight for the day, we quickly wanted to visit the shrine and move to the closest village to look for a shelter. . Meanwhile Army personnel warned us about harsh weather conditions ahead and soon it started getting dark. My friend and I were in dilemma to ride as there was no one around and we still had to cover 30 kms to reach nearest village. One of the army guys insisted if we don’t make it fast, we will be stuck & we’ll have to spend night in the bunker – which is officially not allowed but for our safety they were ready to accommodate us. . This was the best thing that could have ever happened and the rest is history. We agreed to spend night with them in the bunker. They gave us hot water to wash our feet, gave us jackets to keep us warm, offered us food and bed for stay. Today, looking back at these moments makes me feel extremely blessed to live a life less ordinary. Please swipe to view pictures. The last picture has details about Baba harbajan Shrine. Please do read.
