What is most important to me during any mountain climb? PEOPLE. This time around I have gone to Nepal with 6 Ukrainian men (thanks Andriy @andrewrozhdestvensky for inviting me). I was the youngest, the least experienced, and also the only girl. Anxiety kept sneaking in my head and I even considered to bail a few times. How can I possibly keep up? How we going to organize every day life? Will they be accepting of me? Will they be nice to me? I am a girl after all.
Three things I knew for sure.
1 - I ❤️ Nepal and it is now one of the most important destinations for me to come back as much as possible.
2- Safety to its best extend will be guaranteed by a prominent ukrainian alpinist Serhiy Bublyk. For the context, this fearless “snow leopard” has summited Makalu (8,485m) with no O2 establishing one of the first ascends lines.
3- Deep inside I trusted my team even though it was going to be the first mnt adventure together. Life does not bring people together for no reason.
Women in Nepal play a big role and I love that they run the majority of the tea houses we stayed at together with they husbands.Langtang was affected big earthquake 2015 so lots of them were rebuilt.
Porters is a huge part of your expedition. Managing communications with them is critical. Our porters were skeptical they can get our duffel bags to the basecamp. But it was such a joy to see them succeed and be just happy with their efforts and record. They called me “krasiva strong woman” 😂 bottomline: treat your porters as your team.
All of the six men I was with have a unique life story an extensive climbing record (AmaDablam, Denali, Aconcagua and much more). They made me fill welcome from Day one and I miss them terribly already). Bonus: meeting in KTM with my dear friend Tshering, who is also a nepalese IFMGA/NNMGA certified guide and runs one of the best climbing agencies in Nepal 🙌🏻🏔⛏👌🏻 To be continued...
