Why cervical cancer?
In the areas where we work, cervical cancer can be a death sentence, and over 80% of women newly diagnosed with cervical cancer live in poverty. Most have never been screened; many are diagnosed too late for recovery.
Cervical cancer is one of the easiest cancers to detect, treat, and cure, but only when it’s detected early. If every woman were screened just once in her lifetime, global cervical cancer rates would drop by 30%; if every were were screened twice, global rates would drop by 60%. Women in these parts of the world are no more susceptible to the disease than their sisters in the developed world. They simply do not have access to screening and treatment.
