November 21st in #Venice we celebrate the festivity of the #madonnadellasalute which literally translates to Our Virgin of Health/ Salvation/ Safety ( = "salute" means the three things together). . The tradition celebrates the end of the big plague in 1630, which killed half of the inhabitants of the city and of Europe. Venetians at the time prayed to #VirginMary to save them and -apparently - she delivered. . Virgin Mary is the "matrona" of the City as Venice was founded on March 25th, the same day Jesus Christ was conceived.. Hence, Virgin Mary is considered to be the #origin of Venice, and, also, after 1630, its biggest supporter for #salvation #safety and #health In #venetian iconography the Virgin image and the city one are in fact somehow overlapping, I a way that Mary IS Venice and viceversa. . A big #basilica was commissioned at the time to the greatest architect #jacoposansovino as a reminder of where the end of the plague came from: the Basilica of the #madonna della #salute Every year, the #pilgrimage to the massive church on November 21st is, with Saint's Mark festivity on April 25th and the Redentore in July, one the most important celebrations in #venicelagoon . After a few years I had been away from my beloved town and missed a number of celebrations, I decided to bring a #perpetuum #memento to my #skin. . #undeorigoindesalus is a #latin inscription that you can read at the centre the Basilica that literally means "your origin is your salvation, and safety, and health". This is my daily reminder to where I #belong no matter where I go. . Buona festa della Salute, #Venezia #duriibanchi 🐟💙 . . . #italy #traditions #tattoo

••||HEY, YOU••||>> According to urban dictionary eyo means "hey, you"- but for some reason when I saw this sign at the Venice Biennale, I had no idea. The Y stood out for me right away and I started to think of various words with Y: Y for YES, Y for YAY,- I thought. Little did I know, later that day I said YES & YAY to a lifetime together with my partner💌 Happy coincidence/ Happy day••∆
