We wanted to share our 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 of becoming entrepreneurs and how we arrived at this moment.
Before the birth of our daughter, we were satisfied with our life. We both 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘥 full time jobs that paid the bills and left us with a little cash each month for planned vacations.
Once Quincy was born, we noticed a 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭 in our feelings towards working full time. The traditional 9 to 5 no longer appealed to us.
We were lucky that Gianna’s job allowed her to stay home for 4 months. Not everyone has that 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 with their job. It’s such a shame that we live in a society that requires people to come back to work shortly after giving birth.
During the entire time of Gianna’s pregnancy, I was working overtime to prepare for maternity leave. This is when I jumped on board with becoming 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬.
I come from a military family and grew up moving around. The worst part was my father missing out on 8 years of my 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥 from being out to sea. I love my Dad to death but he wasn’t there to teach me how to ride a bike, throw a baseball and watch me play sports. He feels terrible about that but I’m so proud of his service to our country. He did what he had to do for his family and I completely understand that now.
But it got me thinking, I want to be present for 100 percent of my child’s life. I saw myself going down the same path as my Dad. I would have to 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 constantly to keep our families head above water. That isn’t the life I wanted to live.
As we approached the time for Gianna to return to her full time job. 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 started to set in. We had to accept that Quincy would have to go to daycare for 9 hours a day and be raised by complete strangers.
We were 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐤 with any of this.
Then, this 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 fell right in our lap. We watched a 30 minute video that described everything we wanted for our future.
There was a way to 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐛 to raise our daughter and bring in more income then we would have with our traditional jobs.
