Here’s the thing about shitty people...you can only blame them for so long until you have to ask why you keep letting them into your life or giving them your energy. Many of either weren’t taught or weren’t allowed to have boundaries growing up, so we don’t know how to put them into practice in our adult relationships. When we give ourselves permission to define what we will and won’t allow, it’s empowering and decreases resentment. It might feel selfish at first. That’s OK. Anything new feels awkward until you master it. Ever watch a child learn to ride a bike? They crash a whole bunch of times before they get it. Boundaries don’t mean being rude, mean, or giving ultimatums. They don’t come from a place of punishment or control. They come from a sense of worthiness, strength and peace. FITNESS FRIDAY! Here’s your at home, no equipment needed, bodyweight workout for today. After working out for so many years, I sometimes want complexity in my training. Something more. Recently a trainer friend of mine gave me a workout. And it wasn’t fancy in any way. It had some basic foundational exercises. It kicked my butt. And I was sore the next day. That’s why on Fridays I give you this template for your workout. The moves aren’t complicated. This isn’t a fancy class. Just do them and knock out that workout. It shouldn’t be easy. Life is all about balance . . Put too much pressure on ourselves and we tip over. Keep ourselves locked away because of fear, and you’ll never experience the magic, wonder and freedom the unknown can bring. . My health and mental wellbeing are always the first to go when I push myself too far. I’m getting better at reading the signs, and I’m now quicker at putting on the breaks. . I used to just push myself to the brink of exhaustion, and in the past have made myself so ill, because of nothing less that ignorance and stubbornness. It has taken me years to realise and understand that taking a step back, having a rest, doesn’t make me lazy or mean that I’m failing. It simply means that I need to balance myself out again. I’ve tipped to far in one direction. And whereas before I’d become so ill from stress and pushing myself, I know realise the importance of balance. The importance of time out, that feeling pressure doesn’t have to be stressful. A little bit of pressure pushes us to succeed, it can be exhilarating, but this needs to be balanced out with reflection, time out, and space to one’s self, away from what ever it is that has tipped us to far in one direction! . I still get it wrong and will continue to do so from time to time as life is never the same from day to day, and what might be my lesson today, will be different tomorrow. But it’s about moving forward with versatility, an open mind and listening to my body! It knows what it wants and needs, and when when we ignore these signs we put ourselves at risk of becoming unbalanced and unwell. . If you’re feeling overwhelmed I urge you to put your breaks on too! Even if it’s just for 30 minutes to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea ☕️ Lock yourself away from the world, close that door and go and enjoy that time out!
